Unix bliss

Playing with X and xrvt
Ah at last I'm one more step closer to being at one with my Mac.
Okay so it's not a major life changing event, but it is important. Today (well actually yesterday), I finally settled on set desk top set up that works. Perviously I've been using X with xrvt as my console tool. The idea here was that I could use both the x versions of vim and emacs in the same environment. However things didn't quite work out that way. Firstly the standard x front is very small and hard to read on this screen. Secondly the fink install of emacs doesn't seem to have the perl module installed. Now I know both of these problems are solve-able but at the moment I'm looking for something that 'just works'. In addition screen and xrvt don't seem to play to well under X. The result of which is that I can't paste in to the console at all!
So I've been using the native OS X emacs, which has a larger font and the perl module ready to go. Since I'm using this I asked, what's the point of using X, I don't use it for any thing other than a console. Switching back to the Mac terminal app I find that the native emacs now does use the system clipboard, I suspect it did all along, it was just xrvt and screen that was the problem. Add in the fact the I've now got a native vim port and I'm a happy bunny!
Maybe now I can get these domain checking scripts done!
Oh p.s the web site redesign is now going nicely.
