Text editors

Test editor, oh how I love thee
I'm a text editor addict, just like Giles Turnbull, so I found this article in oreilly's mac dev center very interesting.
I've tried quite a few of the editors he mentions here. Like him I use bbedit a lot of the time, but I just can't seem to get away from emacs when it comes to perl editing.
This could change however. in Giles article he mentioned that textmate was going to be ready any day now and in fact it looks like today is that day.
I've just downloaded and started to play with 1.01. Initial impressions are good, it's a coca app, with all the bells and whistles that gives a program (for free!). It has a nice clean interface (some thing which isn't entirely true of bbedit) and supports code folding in at least html and perl.
This is a feature looks like it could be the thing that makes it a killer app for me!
It's not free, but $49, doesn't seem to bad, especially when compared with the mint that bbedit costs!
It's early days yet, but it's a strong start for the young pretender. More news when I have it!
(Wow 3 blog entries in one day!)
