Space odssesy: the verdict

Okay I've seen the whole first episode now, so what
do I think?
Well, it's not a drama that much is clear, that's not
to say there is not drama in it, but it lacks the
characters that I consider needed for a true drama.
It's not exactly Sci-Fi either. While it is
fictional, I think the lack of a real plot stops it
from being that. It's mostly a documentary, but a
documentary for things that aren't real. This is not
exactly a new idea, I've seen or read several of
these in the past.
So enough of what it is or isn't, is it any good. Well actually yes I think it is.
As I mentioned before the drama comes from the setting, and despite knowing it's a work of fiction I got the same sort of thrill I feel when reading about the latest from opportunity, sprit and that I hopefully will get from the Cassini and Huygens. As an aside, I can not wait to see what results we get from Huygens. For human eyes to see Titans surface for the first time EVER! What that must be like!
Any way back to the topic.
The visuals are really quite stunning, apart from one or two doggy CGI sequences! In particular the external shots of the Pegaus, look just like the images we are use to seeing from the shuttles and the international space station in orbit.
All, in all a much better use of my license fee than East Enders! (My fire proof underwear is safely on!)
