Software Updates

Some thoughts on the updating of our favorite apps
I’ve said it before and I’m afraid I’m going to say it again!
I collect software. I have at this point about 100 different keys, registration files etc stored in my serial number database. Of these applications I probably use maybe 5 to 10 on a day to day basis and maybe 20 of them in total. I just like to play around with lots of different apps. However this post is not directly about this...
...It is however about the apps that I use every day. As I mentioned there are a few apps which get used almost every day.
Two of these apps in recent times (the last 3 to 4 months) have had scares on their respective internet forums where uses have become worried about the slow pace of development. In both cases (Scrivener and Journler) the fears where unfounded and development is continuing, but at a slower pace than many expected or hoped.
I have to say that that I shared these worries my self. Both applications are used on almost daily basis by me. But why should I worry?
Both apps do what I want them too, they do there jobs very well and there are not major bugs which get in the way I want to use these apps. Given this, should I be worried if development slows or even stops? Not really, well certainly not if the development slows, if it stops altogether then I might have problems the next Apple updates OS X.
No the problem is that as I mentioned at the top, I play with software, it also happens that I use these two apps, but I still like to play them, so a new release means that I might get some new features to play with! This is why I want development to continue and for it to move fast.
I want more, more, more and I want it now!
It’s very silly really when you think about it, the more things an app dose means there is more for me to play with and hence waste more time and there is the whole thing that there is more code for bugs to hide in and more chances of an update breaking something. I know all of this, but I still want more features, I know it’s wrong, but that doesn’t stop me wanting it. And I suspect I’m not the only person that feels this way.
