I've was a late fan to the Stargate world. It took me two viewings of the orginal film before I finished it! And I didn't watch the series until Sky one repeated the whole thing form season 1 last year. It has to be said however that I didn't watch the series, purely because I didn't want to start in the middle.
Anyway I am now a big fan.
So what of season 8 of StarGate SG-? Can they go beyond the normal 7 seasons and still keep things fresh and exciting? Well on what I've seen so far (4 episodes), yes they have. No 'classic's' so far, but no turkeys yet either. Apparently, Richard Dean Anderson, will be playing a smaller part this season. I say apparently, because, so far I see no evidence of this. We've even had a O'neil centric episode!
So what of Stargate Atlantis? Well I'm not so sure there. So far it's not that different, from SG-1 and doesn't have any of my favorite characters to boot. So what is there to hold my interest? Well so far mot much. It's early days however and my history with the parent show ensures that I'm not going to give up just yet. There are also some signs of some interesting characters developing.
As i write this I discover that both serise have been renewed for the next season, which I think is good news.
So overall SG-1 7/10, a good solid start, Atlantis 5/10, shaky start!
