Schiavo case tests America

Schiavo case tests America: The death of Terri Schiavo this week has not ended America's painful ethical and political debate over individuals' right to die. Her husband wanted her to be allowed to die, but her parents fought against it and received support from the most powerful Americans in the land.

It's very sad when the courts and law get invloved in these sorts of things. It should never get that far. These diffcult, if not impossible descsions should be left with the medical communtiy. But what a decision to make. Especially when you have taken an oath to protect life. However there has to be a point where they consider the quality of life as well just the life if self. Where that line should be drawn, I don't pretend to know. I just glad I don't have to make those sorts of descsions.
Doctors and medics have had to make these kinds of decisions, down through the ages. There is always limited resources to treat patients, some times that resource might be money, beds or blood. What ever it is there is never enough and hence some one has to miss out, which could result in them dying.
I guess this is why we see doctors as infallible almost godlike, because they do hold the power of life and death, in those sorts of situations. They are however very human and have the same weaknesses as any human.
