RapidWaver 4.0, the first 5 minutes

My first 5 minutes with the long awaited RapidWaver 4 update.
This is hardly going to be a review, since I have been using the update for about 5, okay 10 minutes now, so it just first impressions then. So what’s this long awaited update like then?
Well...it looks nice. It’s got Leopard written all over it (not literally of course). The interface uses lots of animations and is generally shiny and new. A few minor irritations have been fixed, like you can now get basic text styles bold etc, with out having to go to a menu.
However, I’ve come across 2 new interface irritations and 1 bug already. Mmm that doesn’t sound promising. Firstly when adding a new link the title attribute is now regarded as an extra and you have to expand the ‘custom attribute’ section to add it. Now I don’t think the title should be regarded as an extra, all links should have them. in fact it was RapidWaver 3 that introduced me to the idea of links having titles and now I always have them.
Secondly the spell check as you type seems to be disabled by default. Now that is annoying considering the quality of my spelling.
Now these are very minor irritations it’s true, but they are irritations nonetheless.
As for the bug, well adding a new blog post, the summary of this currently blank entry gets set to that of the last post.
Okay so those are few, minor gripes, but my biggest gripe is that apart from the eye candy and the new snippets panel, what’s new? What can I now do with this version that I couldn’t do before?
So far I’ve not found a thing. I did get start to get a bit suspicious when the web page seemed to lack an obvious ‘what’s new’ section. Now I got the update for free since I’d updated to 3.6 quite recently, so I shouldn’t really complain, but I do feel kind of let down. I don’t know what new features they could have added, it’s pretty well featured already, but still I was kind of hoping for a bit more.
Maybe I’m being a bit silly here, RapidWaver is a great application for those who want to create a really great looking site, with out having to worry about HTML, but I still feel a little let down.
As I said this is only my first impressions, maybe I’ll be more happy once I’ve used it for a while.
