Being of the geeky persuasion and having come from the hardware world. I've been following all the rumors and snippets of news about the Cell architecture I can find. It would seem that the cell is maybe the next architecture we'll see for computers. We've been through CISC, RSIC and a brief flirt with EPIC and maybe cells will be the next?
Some of the performance claims being made are looking a bit dubious especially if the claims about how the memory accesses are done. Going through multiple look up tables is great for security but not so good for speed, just look at Java! But then maybe it only dose this for remote code and not stuff can comes from a local source? But surely one of the ideas behind the cell is that local and remote code is identical?
Okay now I'm confusing my self (and maybe you as well!) I will just wait for some clearer details before I write on this subject again.
