Filling a 'Buffy shaped hole' in the schdules'?

A new series that is trying (?) to emulate both the feel and success of Buffy. Does it work?
The new series of which I speak is Point Pleasant, and the quote about the Buffy shaped hole is not mine but one from the Mail on Sundays TV critic. So does this new super-natural show deliver on this front. Well I'm not sure at the moment, but then I've only seen the first episode.
It certainly looks very...what's the word I'm looking for..Californian. There is an awful lot of 'eye candy' on screen for a lot of the time. Not that I mind this entirely...
I've have to admit the first time I watched Buffy (of which I a huge fan) it was because of the 'eye candy' in the form of Sara Michelle Gellar I'd seen in the trailer. However I quickly realsed that there was far more to Buffy than this. So is the same true of Point Pleasant? Maybe. It does after all have one of the creative forces behind Buffy (Marti Noxon) working on the show. Well the good news is that there was enough of a plot there (just) to get me to set my trusty Tivo to record the whole series. How long that setting stays in place will depend on the next few episodes!
