Nanowrimo preperations

An update on my nanowrimo preperations.
We are now 1 day and 1 month from the beginning of
nanowrimo
2007, so how are my preperations going?
In a word, not so good (okay that was three words). My plan of doing a short, less than 2000 word, peace on a random topic suggested by friends, fell at the second jump. I guess the title Floppy Lion and the mystery of the Sideways Cappibara, was a little to much for me.
I did try two different ideas for this title, one was a steampunk story about the automatic telegraph (the internet) and two hackers with the nick names Floppy Lion and Sideways Cappibara.
I couldn't get 'in to' this idea. I think the problem was coming up with suitable steampunk type names for modern internet terms, it was getting in the way of the story. I did try writing this using the actual terms with the idea I would come up with the alternatives after, but that seemed to take the 'flavor' of the story away.
So then I tired a totally different idea, a light hearted children's fairy tale. This didn't really get beyond the idea stage, but it was going to be set in the aminal kingdom (as opposed to the human kingdom) during the year of the estate agent and would have probably featured Artimus Aardvark.
I still might try to work this title in to a story at some time, but not right now.
So have I given up on the warm up idea, well no. I'm going to fall back on to a another title/concept suggested, which is drawing the short sword. Mmmm no idea's on this one yet.
Also I've started work on my Monastery story again (which makes this about the 4th attempt at the story). I'd kind of like to get this draft of the story done before November and nanowrimo starts, but we will see.
As for nanowrimo it's self. I think I said earlier in the year that the story was going to be set in the same setting as my scriptfrenzy, script this year. This is still the plan, but I'm not so sure I can get the story I have in mind up to the 50000 word target!
If I don't think I can do it...well I've got no other idea what I can do...yet.
As ever more news on this as it happens here on my blog!
