OS X Leopard Gets Last Minute Tweaks:"At the last
minute, Apple has changed the appearance of the Dock
in Mac OS X Leopard when it is placed on the sides of
the screen. If so, the dock will lose its
much-criticised 3D appearance in favour of a more
traditional 2D look. When placed at the bottom, the
dock does retain its 3D appearance; however, a smart
hacker has already found out that via a single
command in the terminal, you can give the bottom dock
the same 2D appearance. In other words, everybody who
criticised the new dock (including yours truly):
rejoice!"

I have to say that I think this is great news.
Now I know I'm not going to be one of the early adaptors of Leopard, but the idea of that shiny, reflective dock with it's sloped corners really didn't look that good to me. And since I'm one of the those (odd?) people that keeps their dock on the left hand side of the screen, and the reflections apparently didn't change with the docks orientation, it would have looked even stranger on my machine. I also keep the dock hidden, but even still it would have looked downright odd.
However even in this mode, apparently we still have the glowing apps to show what's active rather than the triangles I'm used to. Not sure if this one is a good idea or not, I'll want to see it in action first.
One thing I'm sure I'll hate is the semi transparent menu bar and menus (and I'm in good company thinking this). I've said it before and I'll say it again, there is no good reason for doing this, the only reason I can see is that Windows Vista has semi transparent bits (window borders) and some body deiced that Leopard had to have some transparent bits too. Why bother? Espeicaly when it's such a big step backwards. Hopefully by the time I get Leopard, either someone will have figured out how to switch it off or apple will have given us the ability to switch it off.
