Journeys End

So on the scale of 1 to 10, what did to nights epic end of season epiosde of Doctor Who score? (Spoiler warning!)
Well....
It had a lot of live up to. I wanted to blog this afternoon about the possibilities for the regeneration and how, if it was going to be a regeneration the BBC had kept it so quiet. But since apparently the Christmas special has already been filmed and David Tenent was seen doing that, I also wanted to say that if the regeneration is stopped or somehow faked that they have to come up with a very, very good explanation for this.
I wanted to blog all of this ahead of time, but my dam internet connection did what it seems to do every weekend and takes some time off. I’m only just back on the net. So I’m not going to focus so much on those matters and more on the story.
So the regeneration, or not as it turned out to be. That was very disappointing to me. I should have seen it coming, because the Doctors old hand was shown quite a bit in the last episode, so something should have twigged. So did the excuse/reason they came up with for the stopped regeneration work for me?
Well sadly no. It was a disappointment. But at least the plot device used wasn’t just dreamed up just to get out of the corner that the story had been written in to, it was used as part of the final solution. That makes it better, but it doesn’t change that the stopped regeneration was still as big disappointment.
Anyway I didn’t worry about that for to much after that because as ever, the plot moved along so fast, that I really didn’t get much chance to worry about it for to long! And the plot needed to move along, in order to get everything in to. We did have a lot going on with a lot of characters. We have 5 companions some hangers on and 2 Doctors!
There was a lot of technobabble as well. To much. The whole thing hinged on it, which I’m not sure I liked at all.
So your now thinking that I didn’t like the story. No actually thats not true, I did enjoy the story.
It was basically what I would call a popcorn movie type story. You know the so of thing I mean, the sort of story which is fun to watch but which doesn’t have to much substance to it. Now thats not a bad thing, we have some extraordinary stories this season, some very deep and very good ones, so a light weight, action packed, pop-corn type story to finish things off is not a bad thing.
So we have the end of season 4 and now we just have the Christmas special and then it will be the end of the Russell T Davis reign and all ready we can see some changes, ‘the to be continued’ bit at the end of last week, the fact that we didn’t have the lead in to the Christmas special actually at the end of story, it was tacked in to the titles. Yes we have changes, but this is going to be good (we hope!)
