On twitter, @mparekh (Michael Parekh) lamented the other day:
Had my 3G iPhone Crash 5 times so far, hanging up on boot screen. Full Restore every time, each taking 2 hours. On 6th restore. Anyone else?
...
On 3G iPhone crash (cont.), using Mobile Me sync, and have over 60 paid and free Apps installed. Last hang up was while on-air App upgrade.

Ah, it’s the iPhone again.
Last time around the iPhone was simply irritating, you couldn’t visit a web page with out getting some iPhone related story. You may recall I was sick of the whole thing. This time there has been less hype and so I’m just ambilient to the whole thing.
What!? It’s an Apple product that I don’t care about, what’s going on here then?
Well mobile phones just don’t interest me that much. I have actually updated my mobile phone since the last time I blogged about this, but not my much. It now has a camera in it, but it’s still an old secondhand model.
So yes, the iPhone I can take of leave. It seems to be working well for Apple however, which is something I’m interested in. Despite all the problems that they have had with activating and the transition to mobile me, a million of the things have been sold since the launch just over a week ago.
And it does seem that people like the iPhone so much that they are prepared to put up with quite a lot to get one (queuing, activation problems, lots of paper work needed and phone crashes)
All this extra money going to Apple can’t be a bad thing...surely?
Well if some of the money goes to the Mac side of the business that will be good, yes, but now that Apple has bitten the apple (!?) as it where are we going to see much more development on that side of things.
Probably, but part of me worries. We have, I think, already seen the iPhone impact the development of Leopard, it was late and some people have reported problems (not me however!). Also we now have the up and coming release of Snow Leopard, which sounds like it’s the version of Leopard that Apple wanted to release, but couldn’t at the time. And why couldn’t they release it? Because they had so much time and energy invested in the iPhone?
Maybe, maybe not. I guess we will never really know for sure and it is probably me just worrying, but I really don’t want Apple becoming just another mobile phone company.
So will I ever get an iPhone? Nope, very unlikely...
However the iPod touch is more tempting, especially with the version 2 software and the App store. Now if some one where to write an SSH client for the App store, that could tempt me (if I had the spare cash, which I don’t right now). Checking the App store I don’t see any sign of one. Thats odd, given that one of the sorts of people that buy macs and Apple products is your techie, hacker types, that probably has a few unix servers at home running with SSH open, you would think that there is a market for this sort of thing.
Maybe it’s not possible to do with the limitations Apple has placed on the SDK or maybe some one has written this and Apple having full control over what Apps find their way on the App store has said no we don’t want that sort of thing.
Mmm, interesting idea. Oh dear, it looks like I’m becoming a bit of a conspiracy freak!
