That depressing shade of green:"Have you ever
seen the default wallpaper of a Windows 95
installation? That horrendous, disgusting, depressing
shade of gray-green that, for years, went mocked and
scorned by many? It turns out it may just be what the
doctor ordered for long term computer use. Have we
missed something all along?

I don't want to sound like a me too, but yes I do
have shade of green for my desktop colour. I've been
using that colour for about 6 months now, so I was
there first!
I do find a plain desktop much less distracting, especially with when I had cycling images. The trouble was that I would tend to pick pictures that I like and that most of them would be covered up by one of the many windows I normally have open. I see the image change, but because I couldn't always make out which one it was (I used random order in the desktop settings), I'd stop working hide and hide all of the windows to see the image. Mmmm not a great way to work.
And yes I chose solid kelp because it reminded my of Windows 95. What? I hear you say, you want to be reminded of windows 95, well okay yes I do. Nostalgia is great and since I'm now not in that windows world I can look back with rose tinted specks and remember just what a great time of my life that was.
Since I have a two monitor set up and I can have different colours on each I do! And my second monitor (a 19 inch widescreen) I use solid aqua graphite, which is also the colour of my terminal window. This gives the very cool effect of the terminal window almost disappearing in to the desktop, well apart from the shadow around it.
So yes, simple plain desktops are the way to go for me.
And by the way I don't find solid kelp depressing, I think it's soothing!
