Days 1 and 2

News of my first 2 days of NaNoWriMo and some big changes.
Wow, it's been a real rolercosta ride these last two days!
On Thursday I couldn't wait to get home and get started on my story, The Ice Fortress. I leapt in with the opening scenes I did have ideas for and worked away for about 2 1/2 hours, producing 2997 words. At the end of that I was fantastically happy, that's more words than I did the first day last year (I think) and things where going great, I'd still not finished the scenes I had planned out and some ideas where forming for the ones I didn't.
Friday came, now I knew Friday was not going to be a great day as far as word count goes, since I have dinner at the parents on Fridays and so I would only have a few hours once I get back. NaNo time got almost squeezed out, but I did get an hour or so in and produced 440 words, not too bad. I was still on target as far as word count went, but something wasn't right. I did feel fired up about the story any more. And still hadn't finished the scenes where I knew what was going to happen.
I went to bed feeling more than a bit down.
This morning, I woke still not feeling fired up about the story. So I took the difficult decision to drop that idea and go to my back up idea. It was difficult because not only was I losing my good start, but now I've done it once, I might be tempted to do it again! And I just can't aford to do that again.
Having said that, so far today I'm up over 3000 words and I've still got the productive Saturday evening slot which I'm hoping will produce at least another 2000. That would put me right back on target. And this time I've got a rough idea for the whole story and I fell a lot more confident about the whole thing.
So will the Ice Fortress ever see the light of day? Maybe, I think the idea that I have for the start is good, it just needs a middle and end!
Right back the keyboard!
