A change of mind

My ponderings on
options for a new computer.
Oh for the days when life is simple.
Like say last week.
Last week I knew, that come January I was going to go and get a dual 2Ghz mac.
Now things aren't that simple. I'm am increasingly becoming a fan of coatch computing. Yes desk tops are nice, they are slightly faster and a bit cheeper, but look at laptops, small, neat, now almost as capable as desktop machines, true more expensive. However the big plus point, couch computing. As was pointed out in the recent ars techinca Powerbook review , this is way the best thing about laptops. Okay they are portable too, and yes from time to time, my little iBook does get taken to work with me. That is only a side effect, the main effect is I can work here on my sofa (as I am now) or even in bed (my last entry was made there).
Anyway back to my main subject. My next new computer will be a laptop and it will be wide screen. My dilemma is mac or PC. I will have one of each, this way I can enjoy all worlds (mac, PC and liunx/BSD). New mac would be so cool and would get me a copy of Panther (10.3), but would cost me more than a similar spec PC. Either would of course have to have a DVD drive (why else would I need wide screen? (okay yes there are loads of other reasons!)). Witch ever way I go I can sell one of my existing laptops and some desk top hardware to finance the deal. The plan is just to have one 'desktop' type machine (my inty) runnng, every thing else will be portable. Ah the bliss of a quite and cool room again.
Anyway, either way it's some way off, so lots more time to change my mind, lot's of times!
